Wenn man einen Roman von Dana Grigorcea in die Hand nimmt, weiß man um unvergessliche Figuren: sei es die mordende Großmutter Baba Rada, die ihre Tochter mit einem Terroristen vermählen will, oder die Wiederkehr von Dracula im Roman „Die nicht sterben“. Jüngst ist ihr Roman „Das Gewicht eines Vogels beim Fliegen“ erschienen, der in die New Yorker Kunstwelt der 20er Jahre führt. Dana Grigorcea ist eine schweizerisch-rumänische Schriftstellerin, die in ihren mittlerweile fünf Romanen zwischen erzählerischer Lust und politisch-historischem Untergrund pendelt.
Einmal pro Monat lädt die Lyrikerin und Literaturvermittlerin Carolin Callies Autor:innen ein, um dem jeweiligen Schreiben und den Inspirationsquellen auf die Spur zu kommen. Dana Grigorcea folgt auf Autor:innen wie Daniel Kehlmann, Eva Menasse, Senthuran Varatharajah, Uljana Wolf oder Raphaela Edelbauer. Geht es im Quiz dieses Mal in die rumänische Kultur- und Literaturgeschichte mit Mircea Eliade oder Emil Cioran, geht es ins Kino oder gar in die Oper? Über allem steht jedenfalls die Frage aus einem ihrer Essays: „Macht uns die Kunst zu besseren Menschen?“
